A note on window dressing....

A lot of customers ask us about how we go about dressing the shop window so here goes...

Since Milners sells both clothing collections and interiors, we need to find the best ways of displaying both to our customers. We look for creative ways of combining themes from both ranges and our window may contain clothing, accessories and also fabric and wallpaper samples.

Sometimes we start with a new fabric sample that has come into our interiors department and then seek out complementary clothing collections. Sometimes the Collections department chooses a brand they would like to promote or selects a scheme of seasonal colours. They then ask the interiors department for coordinating items and the teams sometimes source extra items to fit alongside the display. Inspiration for the window in the photograph was taken from our Interiors department and a range of fabrics and wall coverings from the ‘Voyage of Discovery’ range from Sanderson.

At certain times of year, the window will be dressed according to local or international events. If there are local events going on, the whole town joins in and promotes the event, whether it’s Leyburn 1940’s weekend, Mother’s Day or a very special occasion like Le Tour de France!

It’s a real art hanging the fabric in the window and we need a firm hand to get the mannequins to behave! As the stock goes in, it can be quite a squash but we get a whole new perspective on Leyburn when we’re working in the window! We change the window every Tuesday so next time we’re in give us a wave!

We are always aiming to improve the window and have lots of ideas for the forthcoming year. We love to hear our customers comments and feedback so please don’t hesitate to give us some feedback!
