With multiple window coverings available, it can sometimes be a little overwhelming trying to decide if your room would best suit a roman blind or a roller blind, or curtains..or shutters..see what we mean?! We’ve put together this blog in the hopes of aiding the decision process slightly, so be sure to read on if you’re in need of a little window treatment inspiration!
Firstly, it’s important to consider the following:
- Do you need your window treatment to provide privacy?
- How much light or temperature control would you like?
- What is the room’s style - modern, traditional, bold, minimalist?
- Are there any obstructions that may affect the fitting?
- Which kind of controls would be most practical?
- How important is cost - do you have a budget?
Our Window Treatments
Once you’ve thought about what it is you want from your window covering, then you’re ready to start looking into the available options.
Curtains
Curtains are often a dominant feature in a room, so choosing the right fabric is super important. We have a wide range of designs and brands to choose from, whether you’d like bright, bold, patterned, plain, or neutral, we’ve got you covered.
You’ll also need to decide on the type of curtains you’d like, including poles, tracks, headers, and lining. For example, eyelets over pleats will give your curtains a contemporary look, or blackout lining may be vital for a bedroom that gets a lot of early morning or late evening sun.
Good for:
- Emphasizing ceiling height
- Large windows/french doors
- Making a room feel luxurious and refined
- Creating a statement
- Rooms where privacy is key
Roman Blinds
Roman blinds are a great alternative to curtains if you’d like the warmth and softness, but perhaps have limited space or need a more neat and tailored look. Similar to curtains, you can use romans to add character to your space with the endless fabric options!
We can also offer different linings depending on your requirements, for example drafty windows may benefit from a thermal lining, whilst blackout lining might be ideal for a bedroom.
Good for:
- Making a statement
- Blocking light/giving privacy
- Small windows or tricky spaces
- Complimenting curtains, particularly on large windows or in rooms with multiple windows
- Windows that are situated above furniture or radiators
Roller Blinds
Roller blinds are simple, modern and versatile. They are often fitted neatly inside the recess, providing both sound and temperature insulation, and making them ideal for smaller windows. We can have rollers made up in a range of different colours and patterns to suit your room, plus specialist fabrics (i.e. wipeable or moisture resistant) are available so they are apt for kitchens and bathrooms.
Good for:
- Minimalist, clean-cut and unfussy interiors
- Providing sound/energy insulation
- Kitchens, bathrooms, and utility areas
- Smaller windows
Venetian Blinds
Versatile and durable, venetians are the best choice for managing natural light levels in a room. Their adjustable slats means you can easily control how much sunlight is coming in, perfect for sunny rooms and creating a certain ambience.
Easy to clean, hardy, and available in an extensive range of colours, finishes and slat widths, they are suitable for many rooms and interior styles!
Good for:
- Light control
- Privacy control
- Areas where moisture damage is a worry, i.e. bathrooms and kitchens
- Balancing aesthetic and affordability
Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds are an excellent solution for larger windows and glass doors, where you want more control over privacy and natural light. The adjustable slats can be tilted to block or let in the perfect amount of sunlight, or they can be fully drawn back and tucked neatly to the sides.
This style of blinds often provides a sleek and modern look, and you can choose from a wide range of colours and textures to suit your decor.
Good for:
- Conservatories
- Larger windows or doors
- Tricky or bay windows
- Rooms where light control is important
- When privacy is a concern
